Legal
What we collect, why we collect it, and what we will never do with it.

Requires legal review. This document is a reasonable starting point written for a small, volunteer-run initiative. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and is not legal advice. Have it checked against Indian data protection law — including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — and against any jurisdiction you operate in, before relying on it.
This policy describes what Pages of Joy does with information you give us through this website. Pages of Joy is a youth-led literacy initiative, not a commercial organisation, and we collect as little as we can get away with.
We only collect information you type into a form. That is:
We do not collect payment information, government identifiers, or sensitive personal data. We do not ask for them, and you should not send them.
To respond to you, and to run the initiative — matching volunteers to roles, arranging book collections, responding to school requests, and keeping track of conversations so you do not have to repeat yourself.
This site is built to support privacy-respecting analytics, and loads an analytics script only if one has been configured. If analytics are enabled, they are configured to collect aggregate usage data — which pages are visited — and not to build profiles of individuals.
The public site sets no tracking cookies. The administration area sets a single essential cookie to keep an authorised user signed in. It is not used for tracking.
Submissions are retained while they are relevant to the work — typically no more than three years from your last contact with us — and then deleted. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Write to hello@pagesofjoy.org and we will action it. We will not ask you to justify the request.
Children are the people this initiative serves, but this website is aimed at adults, schools and organisations. If a person under 18 submits a form on their own behalf, we ask for a parent, guardian or teacher to be copied into any follow-up. If you believe a child has submitted information and you would like it removed, write to us and we will delete it.
Submissions are stored in a database with access restricted to the people running the initiative. Administrative access requires authentication. We are a small volunteer operation and we do not claim to have enterprise security; we do commit to not collecting anything we do not need.
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page will change. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
