Pages of Joy did not grow through one model. Schools, literacy organisations, community groups and media each supported a different stage — from finding the classrooms that needed books to helping ship some seven thousand of them.
Street libraries in Thrissur
Supporting organisation · since 2023
The Thrissur Corporation, with the support of UNESCO, launched street libraries across the city in December 2023 to encourage reading in public space. Pages of Joy supplied books for two of them, working with Storytime, so that shelves put up on the street had something worth stopping for.
Each partner contributed to a different stage, and several contributed to more than one.
Telling the story and mobilising people.
Large and recurring ways to donate.
Getting thousands of books moved.
Finding where support is truly needed.
Permanent reading spaces.
Going beyond books to direct engagement.
Keeping going when normal work stopped.
